Newly Engaged – Your Next Step

January 23, 2023

The Holidays are over and you just might have a new sparkling accessory on your finger, here is what to do next on your wedding journey.

It’s time to get started about thinking about engagement photos. You can plan on having them done right away to celebrate or book a date for a few months prior to your wedding date. Don’t leave it to the last minute, as many wedding professionals are booked out during the spring and summer months.

This quick list of FAQ’s will help you narrow down how to plan the perfect engagement session for you!

Should you have engagement photos taken?

Yes! Although, they aren’t an absolute necessity, engagement photos are a fun way to share the news on social media and so much more. You can begin your wedding planning journey with beautiful snaps of you as a couple for “save the dates” or formal invitations.  Undoubtedly you will be stoked to share with friends and family, so having professional photos  become something tangible to share the joy with others. Most importantly, they are a chance to bond together as a couple in a new way. This is a great way to get comfortable in front of the camera together as well as with your potential photographer, as a trial run to your wedding day.

What location should we choose?

I instruct my couples to think about locations that tell their story or are attached to memories as a couple. This may be your favorite local winery, the venue that you are getting married at, or a scenic view for romantic picnics. The sentimentality will always be a fond addition to your session. If nothing sentimental stands out to you, think about your wedding or personal style as a key.

You can go completely casual or dressed to the nines for a glamours occasion.

City Slickers? Walk around town and find some beautiful neutral walls and classic street lamps.

Nature Lover?  Check out the local farmers and florists and ask about having your session with their wares.

Bar Hopper? Find a cute boutique hotel or restaurant with some personality.

Cozy Couple? Rent an Airbnb or borrow a friend’s place that has tons of natural light for a cute in-home moment.

Should I get my makeup done?

An engagement session (or bridal boudoir for the ladies) is a perfect time to set up your hair and makeup trials. You will see how the makeup will look in photos and get to use the glam for more than just a Costco run. We recommend professional hair and makeup services for your photoshoot as it looks beautiful on camera and helps us get your photos back sooner with an extra boost of confidence.

What if we are are not photogenic or had professional photos before?

This session is all about capturing you two as a couple, so there isn’t a need to have any experience as models. I work with all my couples and help you pose and get comfortable interacting in front of the camera together. We may even use some of the poses again on your wedding day and then you will really be a pro.
